Governor Wolf Executive Order of October 21, 2021 Requires Businesses Receiving DCED Funds to Provide Paid Sick Leave

On October 21, 2021, Governor Tom Wolf issued Executive Order 2021-06.  In part, that Executive Order mandates that the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) include “a requirement for paid employee sick leave in their criteria for offers of assistance, including offers of assistance involving the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.”  The Executive Order does not specify the amount of paid sick leave that an employer must offer in order to receive DCED funding.

The Executive Order reiterates a requirement from a previous executive order that businesses receiving DCED funding pay a minimum wage “that meets or exceeds the Commonwealth’s minimum wage,” which is currently set at $13.50 per hour and will increase to $15.00 per hour by 2024.

If your business receives DCED funding, contact Stock and Leader if you have questions about the requirements imposed by these executive orders.
