In place of hosting an in-person School Directors Dinner in the spring of 2020 and 2021, the York County Alliance for Learning – YCAL produced a recognition video acknowledging the service and milestones achieved by the School Directors from YCAL’s twenty partner school districts.
As the presenting sponsor of this program, Stock and Leader’s School Chair Brooke E.D. Say had the pleasure of honoring these individuals and shares remarks:
As Chairwoman of Stock & Leader’s School Law Practice, it is a pleasure to join you for this virtual celebration.
How do you measure a year?
In Covid cases? In closures? In government mandates? In guidance? In press releases?
Or is it:
In hand sanitizer?
In meals served?
In zoom meetings?
In instructional models?
In virtual celebrations?
In snow delays?
In kids reached?
In teachers connecting?
In creative solutions to complex problems?
At Stock & Leader, we measure the 2020-2021 school year in “decisions.” We are lawyers for “When Decisions Matter.” It has been a unique responsibility to support our public school clients over the last year. To be frank, 2020 required some of the hardest and best work we have been privileged to partner in.
And as Board Members, the 2020-2021 school year was filled with some of your most challenging circumstances and most difficult decisions. And while 2020 may not seem worth celebrating, here at Stock & Leader, we believe your service this school year deserves recognition. Thank you for your commitment to our public schools, students, teachers, and staff, for your persistence when things got complicated, and your focus on getting instruction, support, internet, and even meals to students and their families during a global pandemic.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said:
“Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
Thank you for your service!
