When Decisions Matter.

Stock and Leader Announces the Passing of Longtime Partner Timothy P. Ruth

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, partner, and friend, Timothy P. Ruth, Esquire, who passed away on September 28, 2024.

Tim was recognized in the community as one of the area’s preeminent real estate attorneys. After earning his degree in English and Philosophy from Dickinson College and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, he began his career with Stock and Leader on May 5, 1977. Over four decades, Tim focused his practice on real estate, estate planning, estate administration, and civil litigation. Tim chaired the Real Estate Group for decades and was a member of the Estate Planning and Litigation teams. He frequently spoke on real estate law and collection law topics. Tim was a bonded title agent for the Chicago Title Insurance Company. Earlier this year, Chicago Title recognized Stock and Leader’s Real Estate Group for five consecutive years as a top Pennsylvania title agent, yet another testament to Tim’s leadership.

Tim was a member of the York County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, and York County Estate Planning Council, and served as legal counsel for the Pennsylvania State Jaycees.  Now known as the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, Tim served as Chair of the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center’s Board of Directors from 2001-2002 and former chair of the Spring Garden Township Recreation Commission. Tim served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of York County and the York County Honors Choir, and as an Elder at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of BNI York II, a business network where he thoroughly enjoyed singing when it was his turn to provide the weekly commercial.

Most importantly, over the years Tim mentored countless young attorneys and always made time in his busy schedule to teach and collaborate with his colleagues at the firm, both young and old, including his son Peter, a partner at the firm. Tim’s dedication to training the next generation of lawyers has made the firm a better place and his positive impact will be felt far into the future.

Tim was the devoted husband of Alison, the loving father of Andrew, Peter and Matthew, and the loving Pop-Pop to six grandchildren. Out of the office, Tim was a passionate fan of the Yankees, the music of Bob Dylan, the poetry of Dylan Thomas, and the history of the Civil War.

Our thoughts are with Tim’s family during this difficult time.
