Kristen McGuire, an estate attorney and the Wills for Heroes York County Coordinator, collaborated with many local attorneys, paralegals, notaries, and legal staff who volunteered their time to prepare free Wills and other estate planning documents for local first responders and their spouse/significant others at Lee R. Glatfelter Library at Penn State York Campus on September 7, 2024.
After joining Stock and Leader seven years ago, Kristen jumped at the opportunity to volunteer her time and skills to the WFH event when asked by her mentor and colleague, Attorney Mac Brillhart, and the local WFH Coordinator at the time. Mac Brillhart served as the Wills for Heroes York County Coordinator since its inception in 2010 and was essential in bringing this national program to the local community. In 2023, Mac passed on this vital role to Kristen, who hasn’t looked back since.
The Wills for Heroes Foundation was established after the 9/11 attacks to provide first responders and veterans with fully executed, witnessed, and notarized wills, living wills, health care, and financial powers of attorney at no cost. In 2010, the York County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, in partnership with the Wills for Heroes Foundation, Wills for Heroes Pennsylvania, and Leave a Legacy® York County, launched the Wills for Heroes program locally.
