In March 2021, the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education selected Dr. Leigh Dalton as a Peer Reviewer to evaluate and read discretionary grant program applications.
The U.S. Department of Education fosters student achievement by promoting educational excellence and ensuring equal access. The Department offers funding programs that improve access to high-quality educational opportunities and pursue innovations in teaching and learning. Through a competitive grant competition, the Department awards grants to State educational agencies, local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and other entities.
Annually, the Department seeks panels of education professionals and practitioners to serve as peer reviewers. Each peer reviewer evaluates and scores submitted applications against program-specific criteria. The application scores assist in informing the Secretary’s funding decisions.
Dr. Dalton is a member of the firm’s School Law Group, concentrating her practice in all areas of public education, including special education, student/pupil services, compliance monitoring, and student discipline.
