To honor our beloved colleague, D. Reed Anderson, Stock and Leader recently gathered at Northern Central Railway (NCR) in New Freedom.
Before departing for a train ride to Glen Rock, Jody Anderson Leighty, Reed’s daughter and partner at Stock and Leader, shared her dad’s passion for trains and history. It was this passion that fueled the dream of Reed and co-founder Bill Simpson to create a new historical attraction in York County that brought people from near and far. The mission of NCR is to enhance the economic engine of York County by delivering entertaining, historical and educational experiences on an excursion railroad.
Passengers could ride in one of four cars, including the D. Reed Anderson car, a replica of an 1880 combine car that offers seats that reverse to face the direction of travel to ensure incredible views throughout the trip.
We were honored that the spouses of Reed and Bill, Connie Anderson and Judy Simpson, joined us for this occasion. The inaugural train ran in 2013, and NCR celebrates its 10th anniversary on June 17 and 18, 2023, with special excursions, events and activities.
