On September 17, 2011, the York County Chapter of Wills for Heroes hosted their third program at the Penn State-York campus, assisting responders and their significant others from the West Manchester Township Fire Department and the East Prospect Fire Company.
The Pennsylvania Bar Association, in collaboration with the Young Lawyers Division of the York County Bar Association and Leave a Legacy of York County, hosted York's first Wills for Heroes program in September 2010. A number of attorneys and paralegals volunteered their time and assisted about 40 first responders and their significant others from York Township, Spring Garden Township and Springettsbury Township Emergency Services Personnel.
Wills for Heroes is a free service that provides Wills, Living Wills and Health Care and Financial Powers of Attorney to first responders and their spouses/partners. If you die without a Will, Pennsylvania’s intestate laws will determine who will receive your property.
Undoubtedly, your loved ones’ grief will be overwhelming; a clear expression of your intent, desires, and wishes may help ease some of this inevitable burden. While nobody likes to think about an untimely death, it is best that wishes are expressed through a written document.
