Grants Available for Chesapeake Bay Watershed Municipalities to Fund Stormwater Projects

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) is now accepting applications for grants from municipalities located in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to fund the construction of urban stormwater Best Management Practices (“BMPs”). Grant applications are due by March 3, 2017. The maximum funding per applicant is $200,000. The BMPs are intended to reduce the discharge of nutrients and sediments to local waters and to the Chesapeake Bay.

Counties, cities, boroughs, townships, incorporated towns and municipal authorities in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and located in Blair, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, and York Counties are eligible for the grants. The funded projects also must be in areas covered by municipal separate storm sewer systems (“MS4”) permits. Projects cannot be associated with new developments or new detention basins.

Examples of eligible projects include bio-retention/raingardens, permeable pavements, urban stream restoration, urban tree planting, vegetated roofs, and other projects that reduce the flow of stormwater into MS4s.  Click here to apply.
