Erie native Kristen McGuire has a lot to be excited about these days. From starting her legal career to taking up residence in a brand new city, the newest addition to the Stock and Leader team is definitely making some major strides toward success.
But don’t take it from us, get to know more about Attorney McGuire right from the source.
If you could use only three words to describe yourself, what would they be?
“I would say, industrious, practical, and witty. Although, admittedly, the last one might depend on who you ask.”
As someone from outside the area, what brought you to Stock and Leader?
“When I moved to the south central PA region for law school, the area just felt right to me. It had a lot of attributes of my hometown in Erie, yet it allowed me enough independence to keep moving forward. So when I heard about the job at Stock and Leader, it was a no-brainer for me. Stock and Leader has a great reputation, and I get to practice in the area of law that most interests me. Needless to say, the big-little city of York is now my new home!”
What made you choose to practice in estate law?
“It was sort of just a natural progression for me. The first semester of my second year in law school, I took Basic Federal Income Tax and Wills, Trusts and Estates. Next, I elected to take Elder Law and Advanced Income Tax followed by Estate Planning and a Tax Seminar. After that, it finally started to click with me that I had found my practice area. It’s an area of the law that I really enjoy and one that can benefit everyone at some point in their lives.”
What excites you most about your new position?
“I love having the opportunity to continue learning not only the law, but the actual practice of estate planning as well. Law school and the practice of law are two very different things, so it’s exciting to see how my classroom work can now be translated into helping others. There’s a lot of tools and techniques out there, so it’s all about learning which ones can be used to achieve each client’s individual goals or needs.”
